Community Life

As Franciscan Sisters of Chicago, we live the gospel ideal that God is our Father, Christ is our Brother, and that we ourselves are sisters to one another in the Spirit. We are aware that unity, not uniformity, in the pursuit of our life and mission makes our congregation a "Gospel Community".

As daughters of St. Francis, we love, honor, serve, bless, and glorify God through ceaseless praise and thanksgiving for all creation and for our re-creation in Jesus Christ.

Religious Associates

A Religious Associate is a person in the Christian community who feels called to share in the mission and ministry of The Franciscan Sisters of Chicago. This involves serving the needs of the Church in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi and our foundress, Mother Mary Theresa Dudzik. Bonded with the Sisters in joyful generosity born of prayer, study, Scriptural reflection, and an awareness of the current needs of the Church and the world, a Religious Associate strives to live the Gospel and to extend the Good News.

Women and men eighteen years of age or older who strive to live the Gospel and who wish to join in the prayer, faith-sharing, programs and ministries of The Franciscan Sisters of Chicago are invited to become Religious Associates.

IN RESPONSE TO GOD’S CALL, we, The Franciscan Sisters of Chicago live the Gospel of Jesus Christ by proclaiming God’s love among all people and serving them generously.

INSPIRED by the compassion and zeal of our foundress, Mother Mary Theresa Dudzik, we give ourselves in faith, love, and joy to praying, evangelizing, teaching healing, and caring.

AIDED by those who share our vision and the mission of the Church, we respond to the challenge of new ministries.

STRENGTHENED by prayer and community life, we give ourselves as gift for God, the Church, and the world.
