Community Life

As Franciscan Sisters of Chicago, we live the gospel ideal that God is our Father, Christ our Brother, and we ourselves sisters to one another in the Spirit. Our life in community provides us with the opportunity to grow as individuals and as a community. We are aware that unity, not uniformity, in the pursuit of our life and mission makes our congregation a gospel community.

Prayer Life

Prayer for us is the life of Jesus itself in constant union with God, elevating the soul and transforming it into Christ and God. As we follow in the footsteps of Jesus, the Way to the Father, we are transformed through the Holy Spirit into the image that we contemplate.

As daughters of St. Francis, we love, honor, serve, bless, and glorify God through ceaseless praise and thanksgiving for all creation and for our re-creation in Jesus Christ.

Our Sisters

From time to time, we receive questions asking whether a particular sister is a member of our Congregation. For your convenience, we have made a listing of our sisters available online.

Associates

An associate is a person in the Christian community who feels called to share in the mission and ministry of the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago. This involves serving the needs of the Church in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi and our foundress Mother Mary Theresa Dudzik. All women and men 18 years of age or older who strive to live the Gospel are invited to associates.

Being an associate involves:

  • Participating in spiritual activities that nourish your faith life.
  • Sharing in the mission and ministry through volunteer services, parish ministry, and charitable works.
  • Taking advantage of opportunities to share in communal activities (prayer, meals, faith sharing).
  • Maintaining communication with the sisters
